About Cabin Filters

What do they do?

The cabin (pollen) filter cleans the air entering the passenger compartment through the ventilation system. It traps pollen, dust, exhaust particles, and bacteria to keep the air inside the car clean.

When to replace

Every 15,000–20,000 miles or annually. A clogged cabin filter reduces airflow from the vents, causes musty smells when the heater is on, and can mist up the windscreen due to poor air circulation.

Brand guide

MANN-FILTER, Mahle, and Bosch offer both standard particle filters and activated carbon filters. Carbon filters are slightly more expensive but also remove odours and harmful gases.

💡 Top tip: Cabin filter replacement is usually a 5-minute DIY job. Most are located behind the glovebox — drop the glovebox down, slide the old filter out, and slot the new one in. No tools needed on many cars.
