Rear coil spring failure
Astra H (2004–2010) models are particularly prone to rear coil spring snapping. Vauxhall issued a recall for some models. Always replace in pairs.
Electronic power steering failure
The electric power steering column can fail on Astra H models. Replacement is expensive (£400+) but refurbished units are available.
Turbo wastegate rattle
The 1.4 Turbo in the Astra J makes a rattling sound under load. Usually the turbo wastegate actuator rather than the turbo itself.
Water pump failure
The water pump on 1.6 and 1.8 petrol Z-series engines can fail around 60,000–80,000 miles. Look for coolant leaks and overheating.
